Glossary

Latin Dance refers to styles of dance that trace their historical roots to indigenous cultures in Latin America, including Mexico, the Caribbean, and South and Central America. These dances were later influenced by European colonists, who brought popular social European dances, and African slaves, whose rhythms and movements continued to inspire the traditional Latin dances. Most Latin Dance styles can be performed simply, with mastery of the most common steps, or intricately through the addition of specialty steps and turns.

Salsa

One of the most popular and common forms of Latin Dance in the United States, Salsa is a Caribbean dance style traditionally found in Puerto Rico and Cuba. 

Bachata

A sensual form of Latin dance originated in the Dominican Republic. Movements traditionally involve close contact–though not always–and hip movement. anywhere in between.

Cha-Cha-Cha (or Cha-Cha)

Originated in Cuba and sprung from a form of Cuban Mambo.
